Soil fungi function as underground channels that distribute carbon between trees. In exchange for sugars, fungi return nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus to the soil. This hidden carbon highway could be the key to forest resilience. Both parties benefit from this symbiotic division of labor. The piece of jewelry is a reference to this underground forest of threads that interlock and work together.
